Our Commitment to Justice & Equity

Given the breadth of our reach, the scale of our influence, and the depth of our relationships in the film industry and social impact community, Exposure Labs has an opportunity to act as a leader in dismantling systems of oppression that allow inequity, injustice, and violence to persist – forefronting changes in the stories we’re telling and who’s telling them, leading with our values to be a model in our industry.

As storytellers, bridge builders, cultural workers, and aspiring leaders, we have committed to advance justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) in the film industry and our society at large by transforming:

  • Our people – Building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels a sense of connection and belonging. Developing operational procedures and a culture of practice that embraces inclusion, celebrates diverse ways of knowing, values everyone’s contributions, and empowers staff to grow and participate as agents of change.

  • Our productions – Prioritizing equity and inclusion throughout our production processes and employing non-extractive, collaborative storytelling practices. Selecting stories that have the power to expose and dismantle systems of oppression, integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion across the production processes, both behind and in front of the camera. Consulting with, amplifying, and celebrating the diverse voices and experiences of change-makers who are shaping future solutions and shifting systems.

  • Our campaigns – Reimagining our impact campaigns as opportunities to advance restorative solutions and widen the conversation. Designing impact campaigns that are inclusive and accessible at every level and advance the work of organizations committed to transformational change that can rectify systems of oppression and inequity. Building our campaigns with the intention and mindset to disrupt unjust power structures, serve as a pathway for other storytellers and cultural workers, and help ensure they have the resources, access and capacity to do the work that is needed.

  • Our partners & peers – Supporting an industry-wide transformation with allies, new voices and those in positions of power. Listening and learning from allies who are leading this work, prioritizing partners who share our JEDI commitment, building relationships that are focused on deep trust and reciprocity, holding those in positions of power accountable, and sharing our learnings in order to cultivate a broader culture of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion and support others in advancing their JEDI practices.

We also acknowledge that transformational change takes time, practice and collaboration in an ecosystem of allies who have been and continue to work towards long-lasting, global solutions. We look forward to keeping our community updated on our journey!
